Samuel Kojo Brace declares intention to contest NPP parliamentary primary in Ahanta West

BROADCAST journalist and community advocate Samuel Kojo Brace, widely recognized as Ahanta Pele, has announced his intention to compete in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary primary for the Ahanta West Constituency ahead of the 2028 general elections. The announcement was made at a press conference, effectively ending months of speculation regarding his political path.

Brace intends to formally submit his nomination when the NPP initiates the primary process. His involvement in the race is a result of extensive community engagement, including the "Walk with Ahanta Pele" health and fitness event held in Agona Nkwanta in September, which drew participants from various regions across Ghana and members of the NPP Ahanta West Constituency executive.

In his statement, Brace highlighted his political ambition, which has been shaped by more than a decade of community service and engagement in Ahanta West. He emphasized that individuals from diverse political backgrounds, including members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), the CPP, and unaffiliated residents, had encouraged him to consider a political career.

Brace cited his experience as a student leader at the University of Cape Coast, where he served as president of the Ahanta Students Association for two terms, as a significant influence on his decision. During his tenure, poverty was a persistent issue among students, which led his administration to establish a fund to assist students facing financial difficulties due to tuition payments.

This experience, Brace stated, exposed him to the challenges faced by ordinary people and reinforced his commitment to prioritizing poverty reduction in his political agenda.

Brace expressed pride in being a member of the NPP and acknowledged the party's significant contributions to Ghana's development, citing initiatives like free maternal healthcare and the Free Senior High School programme. He affirmed his willingness to collaborate with other NPP members and supporters nationwide to support the party's 2028 campaign.

Brace also pledged his support for the party's flagbearer, Mahamudu Bawumia, praising initiatives such as the Gold-for-Oil programme and the domestic gold purchase programme. Brace identified key areas for his campaign, including entrepreneurship, job creation, and improved representation, with the aim of leveraging his journalistic background and community advocacy experience to represent the constituency in Parliament.

His declaration has positioned him among the contenders for the NPP's parliamentary nomination in the Ahanta West Constituency, with the eventual primary winner set to represent the party in the 2028 general election.
