Russell unfazed by haze, excited to race at Sepang

Mercedes driver George Russell is maintaining a positive attitude as Malaysia is currently experiencing haze. The British racer asserts that the conditions will challenge all drivers alike ahead of the Formula 1 Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix at the Sepang International Circuit this weekend. Russell believes the hot and humid weather synonymous with Malaysia has always been an integral part of the excitement and challenge of racing at Sepang.

He added that despite the heat and humidity, the conditions are part of the thrill and a shared challenge for everyone.

Russell revealed that the Sepang circuit holds a special place in his heart, as it was his favorite track when he was growing up and one he regularly raced on through PlayStation. He is optimistic that these early experiences will translate into better performance when he races the iconic circuit for real. Russell is eagerly anticipating the race, hoping that the childhood memories will help him secure a faster lap during the weekend.

Teammate Kimi Antonelli, however, anticipates tyre management to be the biggest challenge at Sepang. The Italian points out that the circuit's ageing and abrasive surface is likely to cause high tyre degradation. Additionally, Antonelli expects Malaysia's unpredictable weather to further complicate the race weekend, particularly with rain forecast.

He acknowledges that the unpredictable conditions could provide an additional test for the drivers, especially as they have limited experience driving the current cars in wet conditions. Antonelli emphasizes that the possibility of heavy rain could be a significant challenge for everyone, as they have little experience with wet tyres on these cars.
