Roads Minister urges contractors to speed up Accra-Kumasi bypass works

Roads and Highways Minister Governs Kwame Agbodza has urged contractors to expedite construction on the Accra-Kumasi Bypass, especially on the problematic Konongo segment, to alleviate traffic congestion and keep the project on schedule. During a recent inspection, Mr. Agbodza highlighted that motorists are currently forced to use the current carriageway on the Konongo stretch, contributing to increased congestion in the region.

He stated that this is the primary concern for residents in the Ashanti Region regarding the bypass.

In response to the stakeholders' demands for a quicker completion, Mr. Agbodza praised the contractors who have returned to the site after gaps in activity, particularly Kofi Job, who mobilized the team ahead of expectations. He expressed confidence in all contractors to finish the bypass by the end of 2027, noting that some contractors have already completed their work and handed it over.

The government is prioritizing the completion of the Konongo section or making it drivable as soon as possible, aiming to have key structures ready before Christmas. This would provide motorists with a viable alternative route, reducing congestion on the existing carriageway. The minister is optimistic about the pace of work across different lots on the bypass and commended contractors for their efforts.
