Rallying-Evans leads three-way battle as new champion set to be crowned in Sardinia

Welsh rally driver Elfyn Evans leads a three-way battle for the world title, with championship winner to be decided in Sardinia on Sunday. The contenders are Evans, 37, Sami Pajari of Finland, and Oliver Solberg of Sweden. Evans and his co-driver, Scott Martin, have been leading the championship since April. A victory for Evans would make him the first British world champion since 2001, and only the third overall.

Pajari, 24, is chasing his third consecutive win this season, while Solberg, 25, aims to become the first Swedish champion since 1984. The Finn has won more rallies in 2022 and 2023 than anyone else. Toyota, the team Evans and Solberg drive for, clinched the manufacturers' championship for the sixth time in a row earlier this month.
