Rachel Maddow Says Trump Is ‘About to Learn a Very Hard Lesson’ When Dems Re-Take Control of Congress

Polls indicate that Democrats may regain control of Congress in the upcoming midterm elections, and if that occurs, MSNBC host Rachel Maddow predicts a "very hard lesson" for President Trump. During her appearance on "Late Night" with host Seth Meyers, Maddow expressed her thoughts on the president's refusal to step aside to assist Republican candidates seeking re-election.

Both Meyers and Maddow noted that midterms often result in the opposite party gaining power, and typically, the president would cooperate to help his party. However, Trump is urging voters to view him as the candidate on the ballot. Maddow believes this is due to Trump's authoritarian tendencies, stating that in every authoritarian government, "the one thing they've all got in common is that the rest of the government doesn't matter."

"There's all these things that are important about the government, and the military, and the way that we run," Maddow elaborated. "But we run as a country that he doesn't care about because it's not him controlling them, and so he thinks it's irrelevant. And he's about to learn a very hard lesson in that regard once the Democrats take Congress back."

Maddow also pointed out that the Trump administration hasn't passed any significant legislation recently, despite having control over both the House and Senate. "They haven't passed legislation in a very, very long time because he's not interested in that because it's not about him," Maddow stated.
