Pune Zilla Parishad has embarked on a strategic plan to transform all 121 Primary Health Centres (PHCs) within the district into state-of-the-art model PHCs, prioritising advancements in healthcare infrastructure, service quality, and digital health management within rural regions. As part of the Pune Model PHC Project, 55 out of the 121 PHCs were upgraded into model centres the previous year.
The remaining centres are set for development this year. Facilities are being upgraded in line with the most recent Indian Public Health Standards (IPHS).
Modern infrastructure and patient-centric facilities are being introduced to overhaul the overall healthcare delivery system at the primary level. The upgraded PHCs will boast modular operation theatres, delivery rooms, contemporary furnishings, expansive waiting areas, improved corridors, and other vital patient amenities. The objective is to furnish rural inhabitants with cleaner, safer, and more comfortable healthcare facilities conveniently located near their homes.
To further bolster healthcare delivery, hospital information management systems (HIMS) are being rolled out at the model PHCs. The system will streamline the digital management of patient records, healthcare services, and institutional processes, thereby enhancing data collection, service management, and overall efficiency at the primary healthcare level.
Quality accreditation is another key focus for the Zilla Parishad. Currently, three PHCs have earned NABH accreditation, while 15 PHCs have obtained NQAS (National Quality Assurance Standards) certification. In addition, telemedicine services have been introduced at three PHCs across the district, aiming to enhance access to specialist medical advice in remote and underserved areas.
Through this facility, patients receiving treatment locally can consult specialist doctors remotely, thereby eliminating the need to travel to larger healthcare facilities for certain consultations. The project intends to ensure that individuals residing in rural, hilly, and geographically challenging areas have access to reliable and high-quality primary healthcare in their vicinity.
