President Mahama to open national conference on housing finance

President John Dramani Mahama has revealed intentions to transform the former Agbogbloshie landfill into a textile manufacturing facility. This redevelopment is part of a larger strategy to generate jobs and utilize the land in a beneficial manner. The removal of waste from the site is projected to yield approximately 16 acres of land, which will be allocated for the construction of the textile factory.

During a meeting with the Ghanaian community in New York, President Mahama outlined the government's plan to clear the landfill within a 90-day timeframe. "We will clear all that garbage within 90 days," he stated confidently. The President also disclosed that the 2027 Budget will allocate funds for the construction of three textile factories, one of which will be situated on the former landfill site.

The project aims to provide employment opportunities for thousands of Kayayei, who currently sell in the vicinity. These individuals will undergo retraining and employment at the proposed textile factory. The redevelopment of the site is envisioned to create employment opportunities and facilitate skills development for the Kayayei.
