Police ban revenue collection, ticket sales on Apapa port roads

The Western Ports Police Command has prohibited the collection of revenue and sales of tickets along the Apapa and Tin Can Island port access roads. This decision followed a dispute between the Committee of Maritime Transport Unions and Associations, COMTUA, and the Lagos State Trucks and Cargo Operators Committee, LASTCOC, concerning the proposed collection of Lagos State revenue tickets on these routes.

COMTUA had petitioned the Police Command against what it deemed as plans to unlawfully collect revenue tickets on the port access roads. The Commissioner of Police, Western Ports Command, convened a meeting between both parties at the Command Headquarters to resolve the conflict and prevent a potential breakdown of law and order.

The meeting included senior officers from the Ports Authority Police Command, the Nigerian Ports Authority, and representatives from both unions. COMTUA announced that both groups agreed to maintain peace and prevent any actions that could disrupt law and order along the port corridors. The Police Command emphasized that revenue collection and ticket sales on the port access roads remain illegal and will not be tolerated.

COMTUA praised the Police Command for its timely intervention and urged truck operators to continue their lawful businesses without concern for harassment or illegal ticket collection.
