Police arrest 74 Chinese, Vietnamese, Taiwanese nationals in KL scam call centre bust

KUALA LUMPUR, September 30 — The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) has dismantled an online gambling and scam call centre network through the arrest of 74 foreigners in a coordinated operation called Ops Dadu Khas. The operation, conducted by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), involved simultaneous raids on eight residential properties in the capital.

According to CID director Datuk M. Kumar, the arrested individuals comprised 67 men and seven women, aged between 20 and 50. Of these, 61 were Chinese nationals, 12 Vietnamese, and one Taiwanese. Preliminary checks revealed that all eight residences were linked to promoting online gambling, love scams, and non-existent investment scams, in addition to serving as hostels or accommodations for call centre operators.

The raiding team confiscated various electronic devices, including computers, laptops, modems, and mobile phones, as well as a packet containing suspected Yaba pills and methamphetamine powder and fragments. Eight investigation papers have been opened under relevant laws, and additional charges are being investigated for immigration offences.

The PDRM remains committed to combating gambling activities, emphasizing their significant negative impact on the country's economic stability and social fabric. Public assistance in combating such activities is urged.
