Pastor who sang on American Idol found guilty of murdering wife

Ashley Flynn, a schoolteacher and volleyball coach, was murdered by her husband Caleb Flynn in Tipp City, Ohio on 16 February. Prosecutors alleged that Caleb shot Ashley twice in the back of the head while she was asleep at their home. After the killing, Caleb allegedly tried to make it appear as though the murder was committed by intruders.

The prosecution presented police footage and data from Caleb's iPhone and Apple Watch, as well as testimony from Ashley's former lover, Alleigha Botner, who testified about their nearly 18-month affair. Botner described in court how Flynn had expressed desire to kill Ashley multiple times. One message from Flynn to Botner read, "I just want her dead and gone."

Caleb faced eight additional charges including aggravated murder and tampering with evidence. His defense argued that prosecutors had not presented concrete evidence to prove his guilt. Flynn's lawyer pointed out inconsistencies in Caleb's account of the murder and the fact that investigators could not find the gun he claimed to have used. Caleb was convicted on Tuesday after a jury deliberated for less than three hours and faces life imprisonment without parole.
