‘One man’s meat is another man’s poison’ – Wicknell Chivayo’s last post before ill-fated chopper crash

On Wednesday, September 30, 2026, Zimbabwean businessman Wicknell Chivayo posted a lengthy message on X, his final public statement. In the post, he expressed gratitude to two lawyers, Wilson Tatenda Manase and Sylvester Hashiti, for their support spanning decades. Chivayo announced that he would reward them with luxury vehicles and substantial cash payments, acknowledging their years of professional service, mentorship, and friendship.

The two lawyers were to receive a 2026 Lexus GX 550 and Ksh32.44M ($250,000) in cash, while Hashiti would receive a 2026 Range Rover Sport Autobiography and Ksh64.87M ($500,000) in cash. Chivayo, who had known Manase since 1998, described him as a father figure, mentor, and trusted confidant. Hashiti was recognized for his leadership positions within Chivayo's businesses.

The post gained renewed attention following the crash of a helicopter carrying six people, including Chivayo and his wife, Lucy Muteke, near Marondera Rural, east of Harare, at around 5pm that same day. Chivayo ended his message by thanking the lawyers for their unwavering support throughout his life and career.
