Nigeria, Indonesia trade tops $3bn annually — envoy

The bilateral trade relationship between Nigeria and Indonesia consistently surpasses $3 billion annually, according to the Indonesian Ambassador to Nigeria, Bambang Suharto. Suharto highlighted Nigeria's vital role as a significant trading partner for Indonesia in Africa. The ambassador emphasized that Nigeria provides essential energy resources to Indonesia, contributing to the country's energy security.

At the same time, Indonesian products have become popular in Nigerian businesses and homes, showcasing the potential for mutual growth through economic partnerships. Suharto pointed out that there is ample room for further expansion, noting that together, Nigeria and Indonesia form a market of over 550 million people, characterized by youthful populations, active businesses, and substantial resources.

He further mentioned that Indonesian companies investing in Nigeria contribute to job creation, corporate social responsibility, and overall economic collaboration. The Permanent Secretary of Nigeria's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Dunoma Umar Ahmed, expressed Nigeria's keen interest in Indonesia's expertise in areas such as industrialization, manufacturing, digital transformation, infrastructure, agriculture, and small and medium-sized enterprises.

Both countries are encouraged to deepen their economic ties by fostering collaboration among private sectors, chambers of commerce, financial institutions, and business communities. Key sectors for potential growth include agriculture, manufacturing, energy, infrastructure, pharmaceuticals, the digital economy, and creative industries.
