NHIA launches nationwide inter-school quiz to deepen students’ knowledge of NHIS

The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) has initiated an inter-school quiz competition and nationwide sensitization campaign to enhance Senior High School students' understanding of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS). This effort was officially launched on September 29, 2026, at Kintampo Senior High School in the Bono East Region, signaling the start of a nationwide outreach targeting selected Category A, B, and C Senior High Schools.

The initiative is spearheaded by the NHIA's Corporate Affairs Directorate and is being jointly carried out with the Ministry of Education and the Ghana Education Service (GES) under the auspices of the School Health Education Programme.

During the launch ceremony, Dr. Victor Asare Bampoe, the Chief Executive of NHIA, emphasized that the program's primary objective is to provide young individuals with practical insights into the NHIS, thereby transforming them into advocates of health literacy within their homes and communities. The program aims to expose students to critical components of the NHIS, such as its policies, operations, benefits, digital services, and the obligations of beneficiaries.

Furthermore, students will be informed about healthcare services covered under the NHIS, primary healthcare, exemption policies, and the different categories of beneficiaries who are eligible for exemptions.

Dr. Bampoe called upon the students to actively engage in the program and leverage the knowledge gained to foster a deeper understanding of the NHIS among their families and communities.
