New details emerge in Cornell University gang-rape case as investigation reopens

In a reopening of the investigation into an alleged 2024 sexual assault at Cornell University, the district attorney has defended his earlier decision not to prosecute anyone, stating that the woman's initial account to police did not include allegations of drug use or incapacitation. Tompkins County DA Matthew Van Houten argued that while the male students involved engaged in morally wrong actions, the woman did not provide additional information that would necessitate further investigation.

The woman's lawsuit alleges that she was drugged and forced to have sex with seven male students at the Chi Phi fraternity house on the university's campus in October 2024. Cornell University has supported the reopening of the investigation and stated that its own inquiry resulted in disciplinary actions against some students, including expulsions.
