NAS CEO Inspects Progress of “Operation Restore Fleet”

Dr. George Kojo Owusu, the Chief Executive Officer of the National Ambulance Service (NAS), recently toured the NAS Central Workshop at Korle-Bu to review the progress of "Operation Restore Fleet". This initiative aims to bring grounded ambulances back into active service and enhance fleet management throughout the country. Accompanied by a team of senior management, Dr. Owusu was impressed by the swift advancement of works and praised the diligence of workshop personnel.

The operation is on track, already showing positive outcomes. Among the key achievements, Dr. Owusu noted the successful separation of serviceable vehicles from those requiring repairs, which will improve workshop efficiency and maintenance processes. He also introduced fleet management software, designed to enhance monitoring, maintenance scheduling, and decision-making regarding the ambulance fleet, thereby boosting operational readiness nationwide.

To ensure asset security and accountability, additional security measures, including Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) systems, are being put in place at the workshop. The main focus of the current operations is to repair ambulances that faced major mechanical issues after six years of continuous nationwide service. The aim is to return as many vehicles to active duty as possible, while also identifying and appropriately managing those beyond economic repair.

Dr. Owusu emphasized the NAS's commitment to maintaining maximum operational readiness and improving emergency medical response for the people of Ghana. He also recognized the media's role in promoting accountability and fostering responsive public institutions, stressing the importance of accurate and balanced reporting that reflects the realities of emergency medical service delivery.
