More than 270 priests in Massachusetts abused children over decades, state probe finds

An eight-year-long investigation by Massachusetts' state attorney general's office has revealed that over 270 Catholic clerics sexually abused nearly 1,000 children across three dioceses in the state over several decades, the office announced on Wednesday. Despite the extensive probe, no new indictments were issued, as some previously identified conduct may not have been considered criminal under Massachusetts law at the time it took place, and in other instances, the relevant statute of limitations had passed. The findings were detailed in a report released by the office on Wednesday.
