Mogwai Share New Iggy Pop Collaboration “Underground”: Stream

Scottish post-rock band Mogwai have released a new career-spanning compilation titled Happy Tears, set to be released on January 8th via their own Rock Action Records. The anticipation for the collection is fueled by a new collaboration with punk legend Iggy Pop titled "Underground." The song opens with Iggy Pop asserting, "I have been designed to make money, but I want to make love," before delving into the song with the powerful line, "I don't need to suck a cock."

Iggy Pop has expressed his admiration for Mogwai, stating that the track's opening reminded him of modern loneliness, while guitarist Stuart Braithwaite highlighted Iggy's influence on his own outlook, noting the Stooges as a life-changing band for him. Happy Tears compiles highlights and rarities from Mogwai's three-decade-long catalog, including a reworked version of "New Paths to Helicon 1" featuring the Budapest Art Orchestra.

An expanded 4xLP edition adds 13 tracks, including six unreleased cuts. The compilation is accompanied by a two-and-a-half-hour audio documentary, Happy Tears: The Story of Mogwai, which chronicles the band's history in their own words. The release also marks the 30th anniversary of Mogwai's independent label, Rock Action Records.

To celebrate, the band will embark on a European tour in November, culminating in two hometown performances at Glasgow's Royal Concert Hall.
