Maruti Suzuki's Production Director resigns; new head appointed

Maruti Suzuki India Ltd announced on Wednesday that Kazunari Yamaguchi, the Whole-time Director (Production), has resigned effective September 30, 2026. His withdrawal from the position was due to Suzuki Motor Corporation in Japan. Yamaguchi will retain his position as a Non-executive Director. The company's board subsequently appointed Sarada Prasana Nayak as the Senior Management Personnel (SMP) for Production and Production Engineering, effective October 1, 2026.

Nayak boasts over three decades of experience in capital expenditure, project commissioning, localisation, supplier development, and carbon-neutral manufacturing. As Head of Production and Production Engineering, his responsibilities will encompass business planning, strategy, capacity expansion, and overseeing multi-location plant operations.

Maruti Suzuki shares experienced a 1.18 percent increase to ₹12,017 on the NSE on Wednesday morning, despite the stock's longer-term struggles, which include a nearly 25 percent decline over the past year and about 28 percent year-to-date. This underperformance contrasts sharply with the Nifty 50, which has dropped around 13 percent over the same period.

The stock had reached a 52-week low of ₹11,831 on September 29, 2026, a day before the announcement. The total market capitalisation of Maruti Suzuki is approximately ₹3.78 lakh crore.
