Man charged with killing fellow resident at Tg Rambutan care centre

A man has been charged with the murder of another resident at a care centre in Tanjung Rambutan, Perak, according to the Ipoh Magistrates Court. Soo Kim Keong, 51, is accused of killing Chong Mun Long, 28, on September 3rd. The court was told that the incident occurred between 3am and 4am at the Grace Home Care Centre on Jalan Chemor.

Soo faces charges under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which mandates a possible death sentence or 30 to 40 years in prison, and a minimum of 12 strokes of the cane if convicted. The magistrate ordered Soo to undergo a psychiatric examination at Hospital Bahagia Ulu Kinta and set October 30th for the next court appearance to discuss the psychiatric report. No legal representation was provided for Soo during the proceedings.

Chong was discovered unconscious at the care centre on September 3rd and later died on September 17th due to a lung infection and head injuries caused by blunt-force trauma. The alleged dispute between the two residents remains unreported in the court filings.
