LPU violence: Student seeks CBI probe; Chancellor Mittal skips unrest query

An LPU student has filed a petition seeking a CBI probe into the violence and vandalism that took place during protests at Lovely Professional University (LPU) in Phagwara. The student, Ravi Raj, claims that an unverified post circulated on September 26 alleged that a female student was raped on the university premises, leading to students gathering outside a girls' hostel and blocking a stretch of the New Delhi-Amritsar highway.

The petition also alleges that masked individuals entered the campus with weapons, damaged CCTV cameras, looted shops, and set parts of the university on fire. LPU founder-chancellor and BJP Rajya Sabha MP Ashok Mittal, who attended a party rally in Phagwara, refused to comment on the incident, stating he would speak on it "separately." The High Court agreed to hear the petition on Wednesday.
