List of goods and services whose prices increased between August and September 2026

Kenyans faced higher prices for various goods and services in September 2026 compared to August. The Kenya National Bureau of Statistics reported an annual inflation rate of 6.8 per cent, up from 6.4 per cent in August. The Consumer Price Index rose from 155.85 to 156.47, a 0.4 per cent increase. Food prices saw the most significant rise, increasing by 9.5 per cent over the year, contributing 2.8 percentage points to the annual inflation rate.

Dairy products, including UHT milk and fresh milk, saw steep increases: a 500ml packet of UHT milk rose 8 per cent to Ksh61.64, fresh packeted milk 6.0 per cent to Ksh61.23, and a litre of fresh unpacketed milk 5.8 per cent to Ksh77.54. Other notable price hikes included cabbages (6.2 per cent), white wheat flour (4.5 per cent), and Irish potatoes (3.3 per cent).

While some items experienced smaller increases, such as oranges (2.0 per cent), beans (1.2 per cent), and sukuma wiki (1.1 per cent), tomatoes actually fell 4.1 per cent. In addition to food, electricity for a 200kWh unit dipped 2.2 per cent, and gas (LPG) prices decreased by 0.2 per cent. Prices for cigarettes and beer rose slightly, while women's trousers saw the largest increase in that category at 0.9 per cent.

Health prices also rose by 0.1 per cent, with dewormers increasing by 0.8 per cent and antibiotics by 0.2 per cent. The KNBS collects data from urban outlets across 50 zones nationwide to compile these inflation figures.
