Lahore to celebrate Basant for 10 days from Jan 29 to Feb 7 next year

Lahore will host the Basant festival for ten days, from January 29 to February 7, 2027, according to a schedule approved by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz. The festivities will be paused on February 5 to observe Kashmir Day. The government aims to enhance public safety and convenience compared to this year's event, describing it as a gift to Lahore's residents to welcome 2027.

The city last experienced Basant after an 18-year absence, having been banned in 2007 due to kite string-related accidents and celebratory gunfire. In August, the Chief Minister had announced a revised schedule of March 12 to 14, but the final plan now extends the festivities ten days. To prepare for Safe Basant 2027, the Lahore district administration has mandated registration and No Objection Certificates for kite manufacturers.

A new Basant Portal 2027 has been launched where all manufacturers must obtain formal approval through this online portal. Additionally, Punjab Housing and Urban Development Minister Bilal Yasin has directed authorities to finalize a comprehensive beautification and cultural plan for the festival. This includes decorating major roads, entry points, and heritage sites with themed floats, lighting, and floral displays.

The Parks and Horticulture Authority will lead these efforts, with Director General Ahmad Usman Javed providing updates on the preparations. Safety remains a top priority as Lahore gears up for this extended celebration of its cultural heritage.
