Korea-Japan Firms Deepen Semiconductor Ties

The Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA) will host a Korea-Japan Semiconductor Matching Day trade consultation event in Fukuoka, Japan, from September 30th to October 2nd. This three-day B2B consultation event, held in conjunction with the 3rd Kyushu Semiconductor Industry Exhibition, brings together 14 Korean semiconductor materials, parts, and equipment (MPE) small and medium-sized enterprises, mid-tier companies, and startups.

These Korean participants will engage in supply chain cooperation consultations with around 50 Japanese general trading companies, vendors, and semiconductor specialists.

Selected through a joint evaluation by the Seoul National University System Semiconductor Industry Promotion Center, the Korea Nano Fusion Industry Association, and KOTRA, the participants were chosen based on technological capability and market potential. KOTRA organizes this event to assist Korean MPE companies in entering Japan's semiconductor supply chain and to foster joint R&D and pilot project cooperation.

Kyushu, called Japan's "Silicon Island," is a vast semiconductor cluster spanning design, manufacturing, and back-end processes in Fukuoka, Kumamoto, and Kitakyushu. The region has seen significant growth since JASM, a TSMC subsidiary, began operations in Kumamoto at the end of 2024, followed by investments from Sony, Rohm, and SUMCO.

As demand for new partners within Japan's semiconductor manufacturing ecosystem increases, general trading companies are accelerating their efforts to deepen cooperation with Korean companies. Notable key buyers from Japan include Kanematsu, Moriroku, Kanaden, Suzuki Shokai, Keyence, and Amkor Technology Japan.

On the second day, a Korea-Japan Semiconductor Industry Cooperation Seminar will be held, featuring discussions on semiconductor technology and industry trends from both countries. The aim is to broaden cooperation prospects across industry, academia, and research institutions. KOTRA President Kang Kyung-sung emphasized that as Japan's semiconductor cluster rebounds, opportunities for cooperation between Korean and Japanese companies are growing.

He added that KOTRA will support Korean MPE companies in entering Japan's supply chain and strengthen the semiconductor industry competitiveness of companies from both countries through this trade consultation event.

Rate Limiting Algorithms: Token Bucket vs Sliding Window Explained

Every public API eventually needs a way to say "not so fast." Without it, one misbehaving client, a retry loop gone wrong, or a scraper can consume enough capacity to slow the service down for…

  • Token bucket algorithm maintains fixed tokens replenished at steady rate
  • Consumes one token per request, rejects if empty, credits unused tokens
  • Sliding window uses rolling 60-second period to count recent requests
