Infantino should have no place in future of football - Pinto

Former Uefa general secretary Gianni Infantino, now Fifa president, has come under fire for his alleged role in shielding Manchester City and Paris St-Germain from financial fair play sanctions, according to Rui Pinto, creator of the Football Leaks website. Pinto claims Infantino leaked confidential documents to facilitate lenient punishments for the clubs in 2014, avoiding a more severe investigation that could have resulted in a Champions League ban.

Despite Manchester City's recent conviction for breaching Premier League financial rules, the club maintains its innocence and has until October 2 to appeal the decision. Uefa and the Swiss Football Association have also distanced themselves from Infantino, citing concerns over governance, transparency, and decision-making at Fifa.

Infantino, who faces re-election in March 2027, has defended his actions, stating that his role includes discussions and assistance in investigations, and that accusations of wrongdoing are unfounded.
