HS Hyosung Advanced Materials Breaks Ground in Vietnam

HS Hyosung Advanced Materials has invested $100 million in Da Nang, Vietnam, to build a large-scale carpet production facility. The groundbreaking ceremony took place on September 29 at the Tam Thang Industrial Zone. This investment adds 110,000 square meters to the existing 390,000 square meters of tire cord and airbag plant sites owned by a Quang Nam subsidiary.

The new plant will feature a production infrastructure of 500,000 square meters, with BCF yarn, automotive, and commercial carpet plants to be completed by 2029. The core of the plant is a yarn-carpet integrated production system that connects all processes, from raw material imports to final product production. This integrated system aims to maximize production efficiency by vertically integrating the entire process, from BCF yarn production to processing, spinning, backing, and laminating.

The company's expertise in textile and material technology, accumulated over 60 years, will be crucial in establishing a foundation for enhanced quality competitiveness and quick response to global client demands. HS Hyosung Advanced Materials is targeting the eco-friendly mobility materials market, which has seen rapid growth recently.

To reduce the use of petrochemical resources, the company has secured a diverse lineup of carpet products, including a bio-based PET carpet containing 30% raw materials from sugarcane, recycled nylon and PET carpets made from discarded fishing nets and PET bottles. CEO Lim Jin-dal emphasized the increasing need for eco-friendly interior materials, driven by electric vehicles, and stated that the company will lead market trends by leveraging its technological prowess and integrated production system.

The mobility materials business is expected to gain further momentum after the completion of the new Tam Thang plant in Vietnam in 2029.
