Honda Civic driver gets attempted murder charge for ramming policeman at Ipoh roadblock

IPOH, September 30 — A car wash employee appeared in the Sessions Court today, pleading not guilty to the charge of attempting to murder a traffic officer on September 24. Mr. K. Viknes, 29, entered the plea after the charge was read by Judge Norhayati Mohamad Yunus. The charge sheet states that Viknes, behind the wheel of a Honda Civic, attempted to murder Lance Corporal Badrul Izwany Pauzi, 29, by crashing his vehicle into the victim, fully aware that such actions could lead to death.

The charge falls under Section 307 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison and a fine upon conviction.

Deputy Public Prosecutor M. Raveena suggested bail of RM100,000 for the case, considering the victim's status as a public servant carrying out his duties at the time of the incident. She requested that the accused surrender his passport while the case is being resolved. However, Viknes' attorney, Jagdave Singh, argued for a lower bail amount of RM10,000, citing his client's meager income of RM50 per day and his role as the sole provider for his mother and two school-aged siblings.

Judge Norhayati set bail at RM20,000, with one surety, subject to certain conditions. These conditions included the accused reporting to the nearest police station once a month, refraining from interfering with witnesses, and surrendering his passport to the court.

The court has scheduled a further hearing for October 26. Lance Corporal Izwany reportedly sustained a broken left arm and right leg on September 24 after being struck by a car driven by an individual allegedly attempting to bypass a police roadblock. The incident quickly gained attention on social media.
