Highlights/scores: High school sports (9/29/26)

Central Illinois high school sports saw a mix of close matches and shocking upsets in September. In girls volleyball, Glenwood swept Rochester with a 2-1 victory while Monticello edged St. Joseph-Ogden 2-1. Athens claimed a 2-1 win over Portage and Auburn secured a 0-0 draw with Decatur Unity. Cerro Gordo beat Clinton 2-0, Roanoke-Benson matched Urbana 2-2, and Danville fell to Normal U-High 2-0.

Decatur Eisenhower upset Teutopolis 2-0, Dieterich was defeated by Mt. Zion 2-0, and Effingham and Eureka both claimed 2-0 victories. El Paso-Gridley dominated Pana 2-0, Highland edged Schlarman 2-1, Hoopeston topped Decatur MacArthur 2-0, and Jacksonville triumphed over Bloomington Central Catholic 2-0. Paxton-Buckley-Loda lost to Sacred Heart-Griffin 0-2, Lanphier fell to Effingham St. Anthony 0-2, and Altamont was swept by IVC 2-0.

Unity was defeated by Champaign Central 3-0, Champaign Centennial edged Charleston 3-1, Robinson claimed a 2-2 draw with Danville, Urbana lost to Mattoon 3-1, Effingham and Schlarman both recorded 1-0 victories, Georgetown-Ridge Farm defeated Glenwood 7-0, Springfield Southeast lost 0-3 to MacArthur, Lincoln edged Mt. Zion 3-1, Taylorville claimed a 1-5 win over Pleasant Plains, Riverton was held scoreless by Springfield 4-0, Quincy Notre Dame claimed a 4-0 win over Arthur-Lovington-Atwood-Hammond, and Effingham St. Anthony edged Williamsville 3-1. Warrensburg-Latham also lost 0-0.
