GTEC orders Colleges of Education to begin 2026/2027 admissions despite fees approval delay

The Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) has mandated all Colleges of Education to initiate fresh student admissions for the 2026/2027 academic year immediately, notwithstanding the ongoing approval process for the new fees structure. In a letter dated September 30, 2026, GTEC stated that Colleges of Education had not yet commenced fresh admissions because the 2026/2027 fees structure was pending final approval.

Nevertheless, the Commission instructed these institutions to proceed with the admissions process as it collaborates with the Minister for Education to obtain approval for the new fees. GTEC advised Colleges of Education to utilize the approved fees for the 2025/2026 academic year as a temporary solution. The Commission clarified that fees paid under the current structure will subsequently be subject to the 2026/2027 fees upon approval by the relevant authorities.

This implies that prospective students will not need to wait for the finalization of the new fees structure before beginning the admission process. GTEC urged Colleges of Education to promptly comply with the directive to expedite the admission of fresh students for the upcoming academic year. The directive was signed by GTEC's Director-General, Prof. Ahmed Jinapor Abdullai, and was also forwarded to the Minister for Education and the Head of Budget at GTEC.
