Gill cracks 200, becomes only 2nd batter with multiple ODI double centuries

India captain Shubman Gill achieved a historic milestone as he became just the second batter to score multiple ODI double centuries. Gill powered his way to his 200-run mark against West Indies in Guwahati with a blistering 117-ball innings. This double century makes Gill only the second player in ODI history to have multiple 200-run scores.

The innings was the fastest 200-run score in One Day International history. Gill had previously scored an ODI 200 against New Zealand in 2023 and repeated the feat in Guwahati. Earlier in the match, Gill also achieved his 11th ODI century and second in a row in Guwahati. Gill’s innings was part of an opening partnership with Rohit Sharma, who helped India post a mammoth 406 in their chase.

The 62-ball century is the quickest in the format by an Indian captain, surpassing the previous record set by Rohit Sharma. Gill's aggressive knock was instrumental in India's victory in the first ODI, where he scored 110 off 108 balls. While Gill led the charge, Virat Kohli outshone him, finishing unbeaten on 139 in 88 balls. John Campbell, Shai Hope, and Amir Jangoo all scored centuries for West Indies, who posted a massive total of 405 for seven.
