GIABA urges West African journalists to step up investigative reporting against financial crimes

Ghanaian Highlife artist Nana Asamoah has launched a groundbreaking five-part project called Social Media Konkonsa, showcasing the song in five distinct West African languages - Twi, Ga, Ewe, Hausa, and Yoruba. The project's name originates from the Ghanaian expression konkonsa, which refers to gossip, rumors, and unsolicited commentary.

Instead of translating the song word-for-word, Asamoah adapts each version to mirror the unique humor, expressions, and storytelling styles inherent to its respective language and audience. The first three languages - Twi, Ga, and Ewe - are deeply rooted in Ghana's linguistic and cultural fabric, while the latter two, Hausa and Yoruba, broaden the project's appeal to a wider West African, particularly Nigerian, audience.

At its core, Social Media Konkonsa aims to preserve Highlife's essence while presenting the genre through diverse linguistic and cultural lenses. The project also highlights Asamoah's fascination with integrating contemporary themes into traditional Ghanaian musical structures.
