Gauteng Golden Retriever Day returns to raise funds for rescue dogs

Gauteng is set to host its second annual Golden Retriever Day on Saturday, October 10, in Pretoria, as owners and their dogs gather for a family-friendly event. The purpose of this day is to raise funds for Golden Retriever Rescue South Africa (GRRSA), a non-profit organisation that supports Golden Retrievers in need through a network of volunteers across the country. Last year's event drew 149 Golden Retrievers, and organizers are aiming for similar success this year.

The day's activities include a splash pool, a dog agility course, and vendors selling pet-related products such as accessories, treats, and other items. Behavioural experts will be present to offer advice on dog care and training. Organiser Sandra Pavic explained that the event was inspired by similar gatherings held in other countries and will focus on fundraising for GRRSA.

GRRSA head Liezel Mortimer expressed gratitude to the organizers, vendors, sponsors, and attendees for their support, stating that GRRSA relies on public assistance to rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome Golden Retrievers. The safety of both dogs and people is the main concern, as attending dogs must be socialised, vaccinated, and dewormed. Collars or harnesses with identification tags are compulsory, and off-leash events will be held, while dogs in heat will be excluded.

Children under 16 can attend the event for free, and general admission tickets for adults and their dogs are available. Limited goody bags containing items supplied by event sponsors will also be available. Pet wellness brands like PetShop Science, Badoodoo, Sniffle Snuffle, and Vets2Pets have backed the event.
