FSSAI suspends Seven Seas Hospitality licence

New Delhi witnessed a significant regulatory action as the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) suspended the licence of Seven Seas Hospitality Pvt Ltd. The suspension came about due to serious non-compliances during an inspection of the food premises.

Food regulator FSSAI revealed that the company achieved a compliance score of a mere 30 percent. This low score was the result of numerous violations, according to the regulator.

The inspection uncovered poor hygiene and sanitation conditions, with water stagnation, foul odour, filth, and inadequate housekeeping in food preparation areas. It also found deteriorated food materials, including fungal growth on tomatoes, papaya, jaggery, and cashew nuts. Additionally, rotten capsicum and degraded cooking oils were discovered.

Moreover, serious food storage deficiencies were noted, such as inadequate segregation of vegetarian and non-vegetarian foods. The FSSAI reported deficiencies in pest-control, evidenced by the presence of cockroaches and house flies.

The regulator pointed out the lack of basic infrastructure facilities and non-compliance in sanitation, record maintenance, and water testing. FSSAI officials consequently destroyed 74 kg/litres of non-compliant food articles.

In response to these violations, FSSAI has imposed an immediate suspension of Seven Seas Hospitality Pvt Ltd's licence. The company is barred from conducting any food business activities during the suspension period.
