Follow official visa application process, Germany warns Nigerians

In a recent tweet, the mission clarified that applicants should stop emailing their documents or attempting to secure appointments through digital means, and instead follow the prescribed process.

Applicants are first advised to determine the appropriate visa category based on the purpose and length of their intended stay. For short visits of up to 90 days, including tourism and family visits, a Schengen visa is typically required. However, for stays exceeding 90 days for purposes such as employment, study, vocational training, or certain family reunification cases, a national visa is necessary.

Before proceeding, applicants must also ascertain which German mission is responsible for their application. They are then directed to utilize the official online appointment system for their specific visa category, carefully following the instructions provided. For certain long-stay visa categories, applicants may start the process through Germany's Consular Services Portal. However, an in-person appointment remains necessary for submitting biometric information, original documents, and other checks.

The German missions also strongly cautioned against paying any agents or third parties for visa appointments, emphasizing that such arrangements are entirely unnecessary and free to make directly. Applicants must ensure their appointments are booked under the correct visa category to avoid delays or the need for a fresh appointment.
