Five men arrested for wearing ‘Tinubu Must Go’ T-shirt in Borno

Five men have been taken into custody in Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State, for their attire featuring a T-shirt with the message "Tinubu Must Go," according to Amnesty International. The arrested individuals are identified as Baba Aji Gremami, Mustapha Abba Yemen, Abacha Mohammed Ali, Adam Umar Gubio, and Abdulhamid Mohammed.

The human rights organization vehemently condemned the arrests, asserting that expressing political dissent through clothing is not a criminal act, and that voicing opposition to political decisions is a fundamental human right. Amnesty International insisted on the immediate release of the men and called for the dismissal of any plans to conduct a rigged trial based on fabricated accusations.

The organization emphasized that the right to express political views is not a privilege limited to a single political party, and criticized the Borno State Government and police for increasingly targeting opposition parties and their supporters with arbitrary arrests and detentions. Amnesty International alleged that the government is exploiting the law to stifle peaceful dissent and silence political adversaries, urging the government of Babagana Zulum to uphold the principles of freedom of expression, association, and the rule of law.
