Feitiço: the story of Santos FC's fifth-highest goalscorer

Guilherme Guarche, widely regarded as Santos FC's fifth-highest goalscorer, was born on September 29, 1901, in the central region of São Paulo, now known as Bexiga, previously Bela Vista. He was nicknamed "Feitiço" by a neighbor, Helena, who remarked that "Luizinho looks like a spell when he has the ball at his feet." As a teenager, he played for Jaceguai of Bexiga, Ítalo Luzitano of Pinheiros, and briefly registered as Luís Matoso.

It was during his time at São Bento that he gained notable recognition, earning the nickname "El Tigre of the Second Division" for his exceptional skills and goal-scoring ability. Over three consecutive years, 1923, 1924, and 1925, he led the São Paulo Championship with 18, 14, and 10 goals, respectively. His impressive performances led to his transfer to Santos FC in 1927, where he continued to excel, scoring 215 goals in 151 matches during his tenure with the club.

Guarche also made four appearances for the Brazil national team, scoring six goals. His contributions to Santos FC, particularly during the '100-goal attack team' era of the 1927 São Paulo Championship, solidified his status as one of the club's most celebrated players.
