FAM president apologises to Malaysian fans, pledges reforms after heritage player scandal

The Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) president, Datuk Ab Ghani Hassan, has apologised to Malaysian football fans for the document falsification scandal involving seven heritage players. FAM president Ab Ghani pledged that such issues would not recur during his tenure as FAM president. The FAM President will meet with the Home Minister to clarify the passport and citizenship status of the seven players, as matters related to citizenship and passport issuance fall outside FAM's jurisdiction.

All seven players were banned from representing Malaysia by Fifa after being found guilty of falsifying documents, leading to FAM being fined CHF350,000 (approximately RM1.8 million) and each player receiving a CHF2,000 (around RM11,000) fine and a 12-month suspension.
