EC removes added declaration from Form 6 online in states where SIR is over

Four days after announcing the move, the Election Commission removed the SIR declaration from the Form 6 online application portal on Wednesday night, in states where the SIR has concluded. The EC had previously stated that for the non-SIR period, the Forms would follow the rules laid out in the Registration of Electors Rules 1960.

This decision came after The Indian Express had reported that Election Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi had raised concerns about the inclusion of the declaration in Form 6. The declaration, which could only be amended by the Union Law Ministry, was inserted between Sections J and K of the online Form 6. However, the ECINET portal no longer displayed the declaration for states where the final SIR electoral rolls had been published, while it remained for states where SIR was still ongoing.
