Dutch Foreign Minister: Russian Disinformation Will Become One Of The Key Challenges During Elections In Europe

Dutch Foreign Minister Tom Berendsen has warned that Russian disinformation will become a significant challenge during elections in Europe. He made this statement during a joint press conference with German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul in The Hague. Berendsen explained that Russia's ongoing aggression against Ukraine is accompanied by a growing hybrid threat to European countries, and countering Russian disinformation will be a key issue to address.

He emphasized that Europe must be able to independently ensure its own security, noting the lack of signs that Russia intends to negotiate peace. Instead, Russia has chosen to escalate the situation by intensifying its attacks on Ukraine. Berendsen stressed the importance of continuing to support Ukraine with all possible means while also working closely with NATO to build a stronger Europe, which includes developing and procuring new defense capabilities.

The Dutch foreign minister also mentioned the International Criminal Court, under pressure and under threat, and the importance of all 125 states parties to the Rome Statute fully protecting the court. Berendsen and Wadephul visited the International Criminal Court in The Hague, where the Netherlands is preparing for new US sanctions against it.
