Drake Maye and J.J. McCarthy find themselves in unfortunate company early this NFL season

The New England Patriots suffered a 35-6 defeat against the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday, raising doubts about the performance of their quarterback, Drake Maye. Maye completed just 14 of 25 passes for 199 yards, with no touchdowns and two interceptions. He was also sacked three times. Despite this, Patriots backup quarterback Tommy DeVito defended Maye.

DeVito, in a report by Andrew Callahan of the Boston Herald, explained that Maye's two interceptions were likely due to a situation where a route he had thrown in practice turned out badly in the game. DeVito emphasized that Maye, who has been with the team longer than anyone else, is the hardest worker on the roster. The Patriots currently rank last in points scored per drive, with an average of only 0.97 points per drive.

Despite the poor showing, DeVito expressed his confidence in Maye, stating that he is committed to helping the young quarterback improve. The Patriots are set to face the Buffalo Bills in Week 4.
