‘Don’t stand and just criticise, propose solutions’ — RMD urges Nigerians

Veteran Nigerian actor and filmmaker, Richard Mofe-Damijo, also known as RMD, has urged citizens of Nigeria to shift their focus from merely criticizing the country's problems to actively contributing towards finding solutions. During his address at the 2026 Pivot Nigeria Conference in Lagos, RMD highlighted the numerous challenges facing the nation, but emphasized that identifying issues should be accompanied by efforts to resolve them. He strongly advised Nigerians not to simply "stand and criticize" without proposing any solutions.

RMD further called upon Nigerians to demand greater accountability from their political leaders, stressing that elected officials must be held responsible for the people they represent. He lamented that Nigerians often fail to hold their leaders accountable enough, urging them to ensure that those in public office understand their duty to serve the public.

According to RMD, citizens have a responsibility to maintain the country's image, particularly when they travel or interact with people from other nations. He reminded everyone that they are not only ambassadors for themselves, their families, or their schools, but ultimately, they are ambassadors for their country.

Describing Nigeria as a "work in progress," RMD called for patience, responsibility, and sustained efforts from both citizens and leaders to drive national development. He concluded his remarks by stressing that to achieve meaningful progress, both citizens and leaders must be willing to undertake the necessary steps to address the country's challenges.
