Delta NDC gov candidate calls for freedom from poverty, bad governance

Delta State's gubernatorial candidate in the Nigeria Democratic Congress, Deacon Chris Iyovwaye, has called for the state to break free from poverty, unemployment, insecurity, and ineffective leadership. Speaking on the occasion of Independence Day, Iyovwaye urged Deltans to "reset" the state ahead of the 2027 gubernatorial election.

He urged Nigerians to reflect on whether they have achieved freedom from hunger, fear, and unemployment after 66 years of independence. Iyovwaye emphasized that the message was not just about Nigeria's independence, but also Delta's need to break away from poverty and poor governance. Despite the state's abundant natural resources, Iyovwaye noted that the people remain poor, schools are dilapidated, and hospitals are inadequate.

He lamented the exodus of young people from the state in search of better opportunities. Iyovwaye's proposed "RESET" agenda focuses on changing residents' mindset, diversifying the economy, and strengthening public institutions. He promised to reduce dependence on federal allocations, attract investment, and promote industrialization, gas-to-power conversion, mechanized farming, and employment opportunities for youth.

Iyovwaye also promised to reform the state's public institutions, improve transparency in government spending, and end tribal politics.
