Colts offseason addition lands with new team

Early in the NFL offseason, the Indianapolis Colts made a trade that resulted in them signing safety Juanyeh Thomas with a new team. According to NFL insider Jordan Schultz, the Dallas Cowboys are now bringing Thomas back to where his NFL career began. Thomas, who is 26 years old, went undrafted out of Georgia Tech in 2022 and has spent his first four seasons playing for the Cowboys.

In the 2022-2025 seasons, Thomas appeared in 36 games, making 62 tackles, recording 5 passes broken up, and contributing to 1 forced fumble. He joined Dallas as an undrafted free agent and signed a one-year contract with the Colts but was eventually released during roster cutdowns following training camp. Thomas had proven to be a strong run defender during the preseason, but with the Colts only keeping four safeties on their 53-man roster, he was the odd man out.

Despite not being targeted in coverage, Thomas couldn't secure a spot on the team. Additionally, the Colts were looking to fill a core special teams role at the safety position, which was being filled by Jonathan Owens.
