CM Punjab Approves 10-Day Basant Celebration in Lahore

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has authorized a 10-day Basant celebration in Lahore, extending the festival period as the city gets set to reintroduce the traditional event in 2027. Basant is scheduled to occur from January 29 to February 7, 2027, with a one-day hiatus on February 5 for Kashmir Day. The city previously hosted its inaugural Basant celebration in 25 years from February 6 to 8 this year.

In light of this success, Maryam directed officials to plan an extended 10-day celebration to celebrate the arrival of the new year. The chief minister believes the longer festival will display Punjab’s cultural heritage and Lahore’s historic traditions to global audiences. Maryam also instructed authorities to enforce stricter safety and public-facilitation measures than those used during the previous Basant.

Maryam Nawaz urged citizens to behave responsibly and contribute to safeguarding human lives during the festivities. She called for the public to mirror the same sense of responsibility and cooperation displayed by officials and residents during the last Basant.
