Circles and roundabouts Part II – Round and round we go

Last week, the author discussed their experiences adapting to life in Europe, contrasting it with their previous life in a place with a rigid grid-like street layout. They found European cities to be more organic in their development, with streets growing around existing roads, Roman routes, and medieval structures. This led to the creation of circles, roundabouts, and concentric rings, which the author finds to be a unique aspect of European cities.

The roads in Europe seem to have evolved organically over time, making driving an unpredictable and sometimes challenging experience. The author, who obtained their driving license after rigorous training, still finds roundabouts to be a source of confusion, even after obtaining their license. They are unsure whether to indicate left or right when taking an exit from a roundabout, and sometimes even imagine driving around the entire planet before navigating a roundabout.

The author believes that living in another country can be a constant reminder that there is always more to learn, and that sometimes, you simply go around in circles.
