Building collapse kills one in Anambra

A 25-year-old man named Bakeru Iwal lost his life when a building collapsed during demolition works in Otolo-Nnewi, Nnewi North Local Government Area of Anambra State. According to reports, Iwal, who was one of the workers at the site, was inside the structure when the section of the building suddenly gave way, trapping him. Eyewitnesses and nearby residents confirmed that the building was being dismantled when the incident occurred on Tuesday.

The Anambra State Police Command's spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the tragedy in a press release on Wednesday. He further stated that the deceased's body had been taken to the mortuary for preservation, awaiting autopsy and other necessary examinations. Police officers swiftly arrived at the scene, cordoned off the area, and launched preliminary investigations.

The Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, CP Nnanna Ama, has directed that the probe be carried out professionally and thoroughly to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the incident and to establish any possible responsibility. The public has been urged to maintain calm during the ongoing investigation.
