Bologna will have its new stadium by 2031, in time to potentially host European events in 2032, if selected among seven potential venues. The announcement was made by BolognaFiere and Bologna FC 1909, who have agreed to construct a new, multi-purpose stadium with a capacity of 35,000 seats, a movable roof, and a movable playing surface.

This will allow the city to officially apply to host the European events. The estimated investment is around 300 million euros, with 200 million expected to be provided by the two promoters and an additional 30 million from the government, should the stadium be chosen among the seven European venues. Potential financial partners, such as the insurance group Unipol and the international Live Nation organizer, have already been approached.

The structure will be built in the northern area of BolognaFiere, which is already planned for development. It will have an exit from the highway and a dedicated train station, two exits from the ring road, and a stop from the new tram, along with ample parking. The project's economic commitment is significant, but its potential is even greater.

Bologna FC will have a modern, multi-purpose stadium that can generate resources to enhance the team's competitive edge. BolognaFiere's president, Gianpiero Calzolari, acknowledges the project's complexity and emphasizes that the new stadium will be a legacy for Bologna, requiring coordinated efforts from all involved stakeholders and close collaboration with competent institutions.
