Benue NDC condemns ward chairman’s murder

In Benue State's Makurdi Local Government Area, Igbu Job Terhemen, the Chairman of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) for Fiidi Council Ward, was brutally murdered by unknown assailants. The incident occurred on Wednesday at approximately 2:00am. Suspected hoodlums reportedly tied Terhemen with ropes, injected him with a potentially lethal substance, and abandoned him near his residence on Makurdi-Otukpo Road. He was found almost unconscious and unable to speak or communicate before his untimely death.

A friend of the deceased, speaking on condition of anonymity, revealed that Terhemen had left his home on Tuesday evening to watch a local football match in the Kanshio axis of the town but did not return home. It was not until people started searching for him that his lifeless body was discovered in a nearby bush around 2am on Wednesday.

Terhemen's body bore a needle-like injury, indicating that he had been injected with a substance by his attackers. His phone, which was discovered on him upon arrival at the morgue, was not taken by the assailants.

The NDC's state chairman, Ohini Ojegbe, expressed shock at the "broad-daylight evil" and called for an urgent investigation by the security agencies. He urged the authorities to apprehend those responsible and ensure they face justice. The NDC also issued a statement expressing condolences to Terhemen's family, the Fiidi community, and party members, praying for their comfort and strength to bear the loss.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Peter Aondongu, stated that the police had not yet received a report on the incident.
