Bahawalpur teenager sent to jail for alleged AI-assisted attempt to poison father

A 17-year-old teenager from Bahawalpur was jailed for 14 days on Wednesday in connection with an alleged attempt to poison his father, following a dispute with the elder. The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) brought the youth before Judicial Magistrate Naeem Wattoo after completing a three-day physical remand. The magistrate inquired whether the suspect's father had any objections to the case, to which the investigating officer confirmed the father's approval.

The father stated that his son, a second-year student, engaged in various research activities. The IO informed the judge that physical custody of the teenager was no longer necessary. The magistrate subsequently sent the suspect to jail on a judicial remand and instructed the IO to submit a charge-sheet within the prescribed timeframe.

The NCCIA arrested the teenager on September 23, alleging that he had strained relations with his father and planned to kill him following a disagreement. The teenager reportedly had an interest in chemistry after watching the American crime drama 'Breaking Bad' and set up a small laboratory at home for chemical experiments. He allegedly obtained chemical materials from Australia and Islamabad and attempted to poison his father at home, though the attempt was unsuccessful.

The suspect reportedly sought further guidance from AI on how to administer a poison to kill his father without being detected. The Punjab NCCIA Director directed a team to investigate the matter, which subsequently arrested the teenager. Authorities are now investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident, the nature of the chemicals used, and the suspect's online activities.
