Atiku demands immediate release of protesters arrested over #TinubuMustGo Shirts

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has called for the immediate release of five Nigerians who were reportedly arrested in Borno State over T-shirts displaying the phrase "Tinubu Must Go." In a statement, Atiku questioned how wearing a shirt could be considered an offense in a democratic society. He reminded the public that President Bola Tinubu once protested alongside Nigerians against fuel prices during the Goodluck Jonathan administration, but now presides over a cost-of-living crisis that has exacerbated the economic hardships faced by ordinary citizens.

Atiku argued that the response of arresting citizens for expressing their political grievances through T-shirts is an affront to democratic principles. He demanded that authorities disclose the detainees' locations, allow them immediate access to their families and legal representatives, and release them if the T-shirts were the sole basis for their arrest.

Atiku emphasized that expressing political discontent through slogans on T-shirts is not a crime, and that citizens have the right to voice their concerns without fear of detention.
