Amit Shah asked me, ‘do they want to sow seeds of unrest again’: J&K Opposition leader on statehood resolution

Opposition leader Sunil Sharma expressed his displeasure to Union Home Minister Amit Shah after the latter questioned the motive behind the Jammu & Kashmir Assembly's resolution for restoring full statehood. According to Sharma, Shah claimed that the Centre had eliminated unrest in the region and asked if the National Conference government intended to "sow the seeds of unrest again".

The leader of the opposition met Shah on Saturday, a day after Chief Minister Omar Abdullah introduced the resolution seeking immediate restoration of full statehood.

Sharma argued that had the National Conference government submitted a resolution solely about statehood, the Centre would have endorsed it. He claimed that even Shah had promised the restoration of statehood, stating that it would come eventually. Sharma condemned Article 370, which he viewed as a "sin" due to its role in fostering separatism.

He deemed the resolution passed as unconstitutional and demanded that the Speaker resign, citing his mistake. Sharma also urged for stringent constitutional measures to deter future attempts to introduce similar resolutions.
